The painterly one is by Djew, and the anime style one is by Niko.
All pencils by me.

C&C welcome.

Matrix art---COOL

Postby Sheldon » Wed Aug 20, 2003 5:08 pm

My first post here--yae!

Anyways, thanks for posting the sequentials--they're great! It's obvious you have put a lot of work into them. The transformation from the line art (and pencil line art at that) to your painted versions is just amazing.

I have to say that standing them side by side, the second painting blew away anything near it. I think you nailed the 'green theme' of the matrix world perfectly in the second. The first was ok, but I found the lighting confusing (dude's shadow, compared to lighting source in the hallway). The colours were not that bold, and a bit drap. The execution however, was excellent.

In the second painting, the painting style matched the artwork style. It carries an 'animated' type cel shading feel to it, and I feel that the artwork suited the line art perfectly. The green theme throughout is perfect and is very 'matrix-ish' in my mind. Reminds me of the building they were all in the first matrix movie--when they were 'in the walls'. The stark cell shading type style is excellent, making for a great style, even though you have more detail on the walls and floor.

Thanks for posting this, very cool; enjoyed looking at it greatly!

re-read your post; you did the pencils; love em!! Maybe you could post a hi-res version somewhere so that some of us could try colouring the sequence in our own unique styles?

I quite like the second one, but Neo's jacket gets lost against the background on the last panel.
Prepare the mental-bleach solution of two parts whiskey to two parts whisky.

I like the second one more too, but the cast shadows from the legs are off.

I did the try out too, but never got any feedback, was it so bad??
I know I didn't respect some colors (policemen) I didn't see the movie then.
Perhaps it doesn't look "matrix" enough

The second one certainly works better with the line art.
