Mark Brooks posted the high res on his DA gallery and invited everyone to have a go at it - so here's mine.

Had to work on it inbetween some PAID work!! (which I'm not allowed to show yet on forums etc until after NYCC) - yay me!! - so that's why it's been a while between posts.

Not 100% happy with the girl and the chipmunk but the rest seems ok to me... btw, if I never have to colour another sunflower again I'll be happy.

and now I get to move onto colouring about 12 character pictures for a children's book and accompanying website - again paid work - so yay me again...

The image wasn't showing up, just a white question mark in a blue box. Anyway, the image is showing up now. Looks nice, but as usual, I find your skintones to be either too orange or too brown/muddy. Nice use of texture in the centers of the sunflowers!

Heya

I like the idea of pushing the sunflowers back even further into the background and knocking out the lineart on them with some colour holds. An overall desaturation like this could be good as well but maybe not to this extent...? Anyway, I'll have another fiddle with it this weekend and see what happens.

My suggestions are just suggestions. theres so many ways you can take a piece. I just like showing what I want to say. it works better.
but take what you want from it, even if you don't like it. its just another perspective.

I agree with what SB is suggesting. Overall there looks like some muddiness in the dark values. Using light, shadow, and clean values to more clearly establish foreground, midground, and background would help take this piece to the next level. I like the folds on the clothing, the boldness of the cast shadows, and the details like muscles, and hair. If you can get past a few technical hurdles this piece will make the leap from good to great.
