If you are a professional illustrator, you should get it. If not must. At $2500 it will pay for itself in just a few jobs. Also, if you are looking for a new machine and monitor, you can avoid buying the monitor and get the Wacom Cintiq 24HD. Heck, and I'm not a professional illustrator and I'm thinking about getting this and a Mac Pro to replace my aging iMac 24.

Forget the Inkling.

Thank Bob that I didn't unpack this Cintiq yet, because I CAN EXCHANGE IT. It's not something they usually do, but since this is such a recent order, and they only JUST got the news about the new model, they're making an exception.

CGS doesn't have them in stock yet, but they're going to reserve one for me. I have to pay for shipping, both to get this unit back to them and for them to mail me the new one. I'm okay with that.

Seriously though, old Cintiq still beats the hell out of no Cintiq. These things are fantastic.

Yeah, this is true. Here's an interesting factoid: The new cintiq doesn't rotate. Then again, most drawing programs have a 'rotate canvas' function, so I guess it's no longer necessary. I will pout just a little because I was looking forward to spinning the Cintiq around.

I rarely do that. The Cintiq is calibrated for one viewing angle. Any time you change it by adjusting the angle or rotating it it gets a little off. Better to use the one in the app. Not to mention you've got giant cables connected to it so it's a little awkward to swivel around too much.

Laura, I bought it used off eBay for $1600, which was a pretty sweet find. The downside is that the display has a fine crack running across it, though it's almost invisible when it's powered on.

It took a while to figure out a comfortable way to use it. I really like holding it in my lap, leaning it against the edge of the desk, but my legs get tired of that after a while. The stand on the 24HD looks ideal for my default position.

I really like the rotating display, but like Reber said, it's not quite accurate because of calibration. It's great for quick scribbly stuff, though- when I'm using texture brushes, or highlighting brickwork or whatever, it's great.

do you have cs5? holy crap, do I use the newer, better rotate tool a lot. It's changes the way I work completely.
Wacom assumes that if you can afford to blow 3k on a cintiq, you probably have cs5. I'm totally on board with that.
