Bachmann: Ban All Porn

Tonight, Michele Bachmann became the first presidential candidate to sign a pledge created by THE FAMiLY LEADER, an influential social-conservative group in Iowa. By signing the pledge Bachmann “vows” to “uphold the institution of marriage as only between one man and one woman” by committing herself to 14 specifics steps. The ninth step calls for the banning of “all forms” of pornography. The pledge also states that homosexuality is both a choice and a health risk.

The pledge is a PDF, but some notable points:

– HOMOSEXUALITY IS A CHOICE: The preface to the pledge reads, “Social protections…have been evaporating as we have collectively ‘debased the currency’ of marriage…in complete absence of empirical proof, that non-heterosexual inclination are genetically determined, irresistible and akin to innate traits like race, gender and eye color; as well as anti-scientific bias which holds, against all empirical evidence, that homosexual behavior in particular, and sexual promiscuity in general, optimizes individual or public health.” Footnote 8 reiterates this notion.

– HOMOSEXUALITY IS LIKE POLYGAMY, ADULTERY, POLYANDRY: Vow 4 requires the candidate to pledge “Vigorous opposition to any redefinition of the Institution of Marriage…through statutory, bureaucratic, or court-imposed recognition of intimate unions which are bigamous, polygamous, polyandrous, same-sex.”

– HOMOSEXUALITY IS A PUBLIC HEALTH RISK: Footnote 4 claims that homosexuality causes shorter life expectancy and a higher probability of a long list of sexually transmitted diseases. The Leader has previously compared same-sex marriage to second-hand smoking.

– SEX IS BETTER AFTER MARRIAGE: Vow 5 requires the candidate to support the notion that “married people enjoy better health, better sex.”

– PORNOGRAPHY SHOULD BE BANNED: Vow 9 stipulates that the candidate must “support human protection of women and the innocent fruit of conjugal intimacy” and protect them from “seduction into promiscuity and all forms of pornography…and other types of coercion or stolen innocence.”

– REJECT SHARIA ISLAM: Vow 11 requires the candidate to reject Sharia law.

:knob:

Good luck with that.

15 - VANILLA HAS TOO MUCH FLAVOR.

16 - CONGEE IS TOO SUGGESTIVE.

In all seriousness, I hate that soulless husk. If she doesn't want to sleep with a thousand midgets, that's her choice - but she should stay the hell out of other Americans' bedrooms.

Any country where love (or sexy-time fun) among consenting adults is viewed a crime is a country full of selfish, self-righteous assholes.

I have never in my life had to make a choice not to sleep with a thousand midgets...and I'm thankful for that. Also, Michele Bachmann sucks, if nothing else, for being Christine O'Donnell in my head and making me scour the internet looking for the article about her one night stand with a college kid that would be the perfect slap in the face to this pledge.

There's even another part of the "pledge" that says something along the lines of "black children born during slave days were better off because they had a better chance of being raised at home by their mother."

Yeah, but do you think it's your place to tell 1001 others that they can't make that beautiful choice for themselves?

Further updates. TDW sez:

Alice Stewart, a spokeswoman for Rep. Michele Bachmann’s presidential campaign, told FoxNews.com that the Minnesota congresswoman stood by her decision to sign the controversial “Marriage Vow” penned by conservative Christian group The Family Leader.

The pledge has drawn criticism for its unabashed anti-gay stance and its allusion to the banning of pornography, as well as for an inflammatory passage appearing to suggest that African-American children born into slavery were better off than they are today because because they “more likely to be raised by [their] mother and father in a two-parent household.”

The Family Leader founder Bob Vander Plaats announced yesterday that his group has removed the offending passage from their vow to prevent after arriving at the conclusion that its “misconstruction can detract from the core message of the Marriage Vow: that ALL of us must work to strengthen and support families and marriages between one woman and one man.”

It was unclear if Bachmann or former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, who also signed the pledge, knew the vow contained the slavery passage, but their campaign reps noted that the part of the pledge they signed made no reference to slavery, only to the condemnation of same-sex marriage, abortion, infidelity, and pornography.

Meanwhile, GOP presidential candidate Gary Johnson released a statement calling The Family Leader’s Marriage Vow “offensive and unrepublican.”

“This type of rhetoric is what gives Republicans a bad name,” the former New Mexico governor says in the statement. “Government should not be involved in the bedrooms of consenting adults.”

The removed "offending line":

Slavery had a disastrous impact on African-American families, yet sadly a child born into slavery in 1860 was more likely to be raised by his mother and father in a two-parent household than was an African-American baby born after the election of the USA‟s first African-American President.

Completely ignoring the fact that slaves weren't allowed to marry and were frequently split up by their owners and force-bred so they'd have more specimens to sell at market.

Also, Obama came from a "broken home."

Also, the two shitsticks signed the version with "the offending line" included, so removing it now means fuck-all.
