I wonder.

I see a lot of really bad(not accomplished?) art at Comicon, and people don't have the balls to ridicule some poor slob(or slobette) about their work.

Is it that Rob was a dick that people feel ok to do this? Or they feel obligated to even the field because of his former success?

I dunno. It's a cheap shot to do that to someone who can't respond by beating your ass because he's at a place where he's pretty much working, he's on the clock at these events. An ambassador of comics, like it or not.

I'm mad at these dicks for making me feel sympathy for Rob. I don't have the restraint he has. I may have gone all -the Android in Alien- on that dude and rolled that shit up and tried to suffocate him with it.

I never understand that "beat people up" thing. Beating the guy up would have martyred him to some.

I think Rob handled the situation like a real pro. I don't like a lot of things about Rob's professional conduct, but seriously- he handles this sort of bashing better than pretty much anyone else I've seen. And I have no sympathy for Rob in this whatsoever- he clearly doesn't need it. Rob definitely came out clean from the exchange, and the offending jerk looked like a giant tool.

Rob always makes me think of this Liberace quote:

The critics would have a field day with [Liberace's] gimmicky act, his showy but careless piano playing, his non-stop promotions, and his gaudy display of success but he always had the last laugh, as immortally preserved by the famous quotation, first recorded in a letter to a critic, "Thank you for your very amusing review. After reading it, in fact, my brother George and I cried all the way to the bank."

Randy and I were talking about this last night. Apparently, as we seem to do on a frighteningly regular basis, independently we'd both come to the same conclusion that, next time we're at a show where Rob is in attendance, we want him to do an Edward Scissorhands sketch in Randy's sketchbook.

Ironically, I think I remember Rob actually using that expression in response
to "critiscism"(insults) that arose following his comments in the whole Peter David, Shatterstar being gay affair....

I'm exaggerating the whole beat the guy up thing. But I'd want to if someone did that to me. It's really rude and disrespectful. I can't fathom what it takes to think you can have the right to do that to anyone, in public. I would certainly have told that guy to go fuck himself. In that scenario, I gained a kind of respect for Rob.

I dunno, even with that guy being a dork at least he DID do it in public instead of online like most people these days. He had a beef, went up to the man he had a beef with and said his peace...giving him the book is two folds, a gift and a great reference for someone he thinks needs help.

personally, I don't see a problem with this, or I don't see why so many of you think its "disrespectful"...considering how many legit beefs there are out there about the man, and how many people he disrespected and was dishonorable with I think this is nothing...and really, the real reason Rob didn't do anything is cuz he's a pussy....I can probably prove it in court too.hahahahaha

I think that there are 2 parts of this. 1 part is kinda funny but the other is the part that I feel is disrespectful, even if you don't like Rob.

I think that him buying the How to Draw the Marvel Way and giving it to Rob is kinda funny. Rob doesn't live in a vacuum and he knows how allot of people feel about his work so I think even Rob would take it as a humorous jab, as he seemed to from the video.

The first part where he goes up and asks for an apology is the part I think is really disrespectful. It is really simple that if you don;t like something don't buy it/support it, not to be a giant ass and demand an apology. I have met Rob at a couple of cons and he hasn't been too bad, he often seems to be uninterested in being there or what ever but I haven't seen him being a jerk to any fans at least. I think that in the face of what this guy did he handled it pretty well.

I know that there are some people on here who have had personal dealing with Rob and maybe those people have the right to ask/demand an apology but not some jackass who disliked a story he did, or his art.
