Man Survives 100 ft. Fall, lands on God thread.

So my boss comes to me on Monday, and tells me about a friend of his from church who wanted him (my boss) to go repelling on Tuesday. For whatever reason, he says he had a strong impression NOT to go. No specific reason, they are both experienced and have done it together often.

So the guy invites somebody else. This is what happened.

I couldn't help notice that he was still attached to the rope, which slowed him considerably, and hear that he also caught the rope with his hands and slowed himself down quite a bit further.
Curious to know how he thinks his survival proves there's a God that caught him... sounds more like there's a Safety Harness.

Sucks that he banged his head like that. I'm glad he was alright.

Nope. But I've got no beef with people who do (despite how I almost always sound )

I'm not crazy about people thanking God for saving them instead of (in this case) the company who made their safety harness, which really DID save their life.

Belief in God is great, but credit where credit is due.

People who believe in God will automatically give credit.. this is why they believe, that's what they're SUPPOSED to do.

So you can't say "you have no problem with people believing in God" and have a problem with where they give credit. If you have a problem with one whether you say it or not you have a problem with both... Not saying that you do Dave, just expressing something that made me think about what you said.

Both go hand in hand, the very point of being Christian is to thank God for everything because it's only possible through Him... so I'm saying not to expect credit to be given anywhere else because that's just unchristian and quite hypocritical in accordance to what they preach. Personally I admire that man's integrity.

How about something more reasonable and responsible like "Thanks to God for giving Safety-Co the sight to build this safety harness, and thanks for making me think to wear a helmet, and thanks for the years of training to deal with this situation."

see in your case reason is subjective Dave, and just like you say "thanks for the years of training" they can say "why don't you thank God for the brain and means to get that training".

In the end in a Christian eye, it all ends with God, not with any human element or physical object. So of course he'd sum it up by saying "thanks God", because he truly believes in the end without God to provide any of those things for him, he'd be dead. It's just like your dad giving you cash to get a new bike, you're going to say "thanks Dad" and not "thanks cash!!!"

He's a Christian and won't ever re-arrange his words to be politically correct or what is considered reason for you or anyone else that thinks God doesn't exist. So I daresay they don't and won't care what you consider reasonable because in the end it's all different opinions, and whatnot.

What is important to him is what God thinks, not what man does. All this is very very clear, he's a devout Christian. Not just clear but expected.*shrug*

It's because of course Christians are taught you don't test God, that's an insult to Him. The belief is that He'll save you when you need, not when you want, so you don't just be stupid and walk without safety gear because you assume God is going to save you for being stupid. He gave him wisdom, remember? That also means the common sense to move in a sensible way. What kind of God spends time stopping stupid people who don't take precautions like any other body-limited human being just because they think He'll save them on their whim? Must be a weak God with tons of spare time who saves His people for shits and giggles.

Really, anything you have a question or contest to concerning Christianity there's an answer as well. There's nothing 'science' has 'proven' that Christianity seriously cannot contest. It goes both ways.

Why? I use science without quotes when I believe in what it says. Hell, my entire career is in some form of Science for God's sake (haha pun definitely intended. ).

anyways, When I don't agree with it, I'll refer to it as "science" to show that I disagree with it. Didn't know that was a problem, I have no problem with you saying "God" in quotes if you don't believe, it makes what you're saying more understandable without having to spell out your opinion
