There's a modifier key you can hold when clicking links in IE that forces it to open in a new window. Ctrl or alt or shift or a combination thereof. Can't remember. Might be something similar if you're on a Mac...

With Maxthon, I just drag a link a bit and it opens in a new tab.

sure. with firefox on my PC, i can wheel-click any link and open it in a new tab, but i don't always think to do it.
I'm just thinking from the POV of a webmaster and how to best keep viewers corralled into my site.

Apparently, phpBBs world-wide have seen a huge increase in the number of spammers in the last week or so. The official phpBB site was attacked and is currently down, so the only response so far is unofficial (which is to turn on CAPTCHA during registration and manually authorize accounts). On the board I administrate, CAPTCHA has been on the whole time, and in the last week we've gone from 0 spam accounts to about 12 new ones per day. And while some of the spammers use .ru email addresses, many of the accounts are using gmail's to register, which makes it more difficult to filter the real accounts from the spammers.

Hopefully the phpBB site comes back online soon and the dev team can offer a real solution.
