Green Lantern covers

Postby Zombie Dave McCaig » Wed Feb 27, 2008 1:47 pm

Hey folks. Here's the first in a series of Green Lantern covers I'm doing with Ivan Reis.

I'll keep posting more as I complete them.

Pencils by Ivan, rest by me.

That fractal thing worked out well for you there.

Ivan Reis has to be my favorite artist right now, and damn if you don't make him look good. Of course, so does Moose Baumann. I still don't get the floating insignias that have popped up since Rebirth, though. heh. I always just think "all the fighting and flight they have to think about and will into existence, and they STILL have time to think up their symbols floating around."

**update: Wang area fixed**
Yeah, not a fan of the lanterns floating around, personally. I've always felt that GL's powers would look better as whispy ghost-like tendrils. I know I'm def. in the minority there though.

sweet! I think the ring effect kinda takes away from the style of the piece though. its pretty, just doesn't fit.
so are you ditchin line completely or is he a minimalist?

Ditching the line.

Here are the pencils- I threw in the fractal because I want to use it on some future covers, and to be honest Ivan's triangle shapes were not sitting right with me. The lantern energy climbing Abin Sur's shoulder confused the planes, too. Just a personal thing on my part I'm sure.
Over all though, I couldn't be happier to be doing these covers. I think Ivan kicks ass. I think GL kicks ass. I'm working on the next 4 covers after this one right now, and each one is better than the last! Sooo fun.

Fractals=the new lens flare. :P

Looking good Dave.

Its nice to see the pencils to paint. Helps give a sort of heads up on whats fair game to alter from the original.

Don't take my monkeying for what's fair game. I'm sure some people alter more, some less. Some editors/artists accept more or less monkeying as well.

What I'm trying to say is that this cover is not the calibration standard for monkeyometery.
