Well, all right then. Guess it's worth finishing up the last two pages of the story, after all. Thanks for the kind words, Ben. I love coloring your stuff. I'll try to do those other 2 pages this weekend. Cheers!

As for you other colorists out there, can you hit me with some serious crits? Hit me with your best shot!

Hey Nathan, no fair. You beat me to it! :x

I've been dying to try my hand at coloring Roman's stuff since he first posted but my deadlines have been killers.

These look great! Nice choices on the colors and colorholds. Definitely finish up the other pages.

And as soon as I kill a couple of these books, I'm all over these.

This is about as far as I got:

Maybe we should make this a topical art thread? If you want Ben try and get the files to Dean or Dave and they can post them in our downloads section.

that would be awesome. I was thinking of maybe suggesting a thread like that, but you beat me to it!

Roman, would you be cool with that? I'd love to give coloring this page a go.

If it's cool, can you email me the artwork at mailto:dave@dave-co.com ??

I NEVER gloat about anything...but I think I got you guys beat...
I get to color a 10 or 15 pager that Ben is drawing for the decoy anthology I am working on... and what I have seen so far looks RADICAL!!! I can't wait to get started on it. Hi Ben, the pages look sweet!

Those colors are real cool nate. I don't really know what to tell you! You improve with every piece you post. If I have to be picky because you asked, the only thing I would say is to try to find a more definite style to the rendering on faces. The first and third pages look great but on the second page, the rendering on the fairy face changes from the other pages. But this IS being really picky! Keep it up!

Thanks a lot for the crit, Mike! I feel like I'm making progress with my coloring, but it means a lot to hear that from someone other than myself.

As for the rendering on the fairie's face, I had a hell of a hard time deciding what to do with it. Do I give her the facial features you'd expect, like a nose bridge? The line art doesn't indicate it, and I certainly didn't want to detract from or muddy up Ben's lines. In the end, I found a rendering I could live with and moved on -- but, I think if I had been doing this in a professional capacity, I would have definitely given Ben a shout and asked him for input.

Here I did this real quick to show you... it might not be exactly right, but I think it matches what you did to the face on that middle panel. Those charaters from the other two pages have this real cool, stylistic rendering you did on them. I think if you just think in that manner and treat the fairy's face like that, all the pages will tie in nicely!!! I have been studying Ben's art ever since he posted here (I like it a lot!) and I am not quite how he accomplishes it, but he's able to convey a lot a energy in his characters and backgrounds with using very little. And all this with using pretty much one line weight... it's freakin' amazing!!! So I don't think what you did took away from the line work. I think he stuff could be colored in so many ways and still look awesome everytime. Let me know if this any make sense or not.

Hey! I like that! Thanks, Mike! I think I'll go back and take another crack at that face, now. I totally agree that Ben's lines could be colored in myriad ways and still look great. I love the way you did the Frankenstein!
