Agreed, but with an addendum. I think it's a little too dark...for Superman. I'd like to see the blues in his costume move closer to blue than purple to brighten him up a bit.

I kind of agree with you about the left hand. The small blob-like highlights are kind of making it look like he got bit by kryptonite powered ants.

Nice work on yours, Jasen. I think the reds in your cape might be a bit too dark for my tastes, but you've really captured a beautiful scene.

I got some last minute pages dropped in my lap that I hope to have finished by tonight, so it will probably be the weekend before I can post mine. :shake:

I don't agree that Superman is too dark, but I see what you guys are saying about the hand. I worked on it a little bit more this afternoon.

Nice one, Jasen. It kind of has a classic, 30's illustration feel to the palette.

Thanks Ryan!
I love the way you made the highlights with those angled strokes, I love that look you got.
I see what they are saying about it being too dark, but only a smidge.
I like your new hand rendering too.

I guess when I'm saying he's too dark, I'm not talking about it in relation to what you've done here. He's perfectly visible and nothing is getting lost. I'm more referring to my idea of Superman being brighter than the version you did here. I love your take on it, and it's a perfect example of why we're doing these exercises.

Love the revision to his hand. It really comes together now. :ice:

No. I'm working mine tonight when I get home from work, unless Hi-Fi sends me a couple more pages.

So I finally got around to getting mine finished up. Better late than never, right? I'd love to hear what you think.

I wonder if we could/should stick these challenges into their own section within the Public Gallery?

It looks good -- actually reminds me of a colorist I used to work with a while ago... I like this challenge deal because the different versions become something like a critique of each others work.

Jason.

Ross, I'm guessing you rendered the costume with your brush set to screen mode? I don't like how de-saturated the hilghts became. the shadows seem over saturated by comparison. I used to use screen mode for everything (the Hi-Fi/Wildstorm method) but now i paint everything in normal mode except for skin tones and metallics.

I like everything but the blue of his costume though.

And here I thought I was the only "normal" one. Great job guys. These Supermen look great.

I said something about how the Hi-Fi chart is good but doesn't cover abnormal lighting conditions like this one. Try using something closer to 50m 100y in screen mode on the blues.
