nice! My only note is that the tangents between Marvel Boy & Iron Man's thigh/shin, kinda kill the depth of the piece, and confuse the silhouettes. I think it would be more successful if you moved MB, so that IM's leg doesn't run into his torso, or if you extened IM's leg, and bent the other one instead. Other than that, it looks really good.

Ugh. Y'know some people put lots of time and effort in learning how to draw.

Did you miss the parts where he costumed and colored the naked models? :?

Um... okay. Different tools and methods for different people. It'll be alright.

I was going to say the same thing about that tangent. I also think the background doesn't quite mesh with the characters, stylistically. Maybe if the linework wasn't so prominent on the Marvel Boy and Iron man? Pretty cool piece, though. I have fond memories of reading that Marvel Boy series.

Come on, you guys can't seriously be defending this. Granted, he has some technical ability with a computer, but there's almost no substance behind it. I mean look at the stuff on his blog (http://marcborstelstudios.blogspot.com/):

Image

Image

Traced figures, poorly filtered photographs, and forests consisting of badly drawn, copy-and-pasted trees. This stuff is deplorable and when people accept it as "different tools and methods for different people" just make it that much harder for people who really want to put in the time and energy to become better artists.

I guess if it's just a job and you have no integrity whatsoever the ends can justify the means.

Bullshit.

Get used to it... you're going to see a whole generation of artists coming in doing the same things.

Best,
Jason.

Yes, deplorable... No one will ever become anything doing work of that type...

Sorry, guys, I'm very proud of my work, but also I'm open to read comments and critics, so, everybody is welcome to do it.
I'm just a newbie here and I didn't mean to start a grudge.

theres already mad pros who use this technique. ad agencies have been using this process forever.
mixed media is the new way for comics.

people who know how to draw will only have an advantage.

I agree there is some life missing in this art, but photo referenced works usually loses life for some reason, IMHO(unless you use it and not
get used by it).
I just did a series of images that were painted using photo reference. I had to use models, get lighting rigs
and cameras, find a studio to shoot in. one might think its a short cut but actually theres a lot of work put into it.

I personally think theres all kinds of problems with this piece that have nothing to do with the technique. staging, facial
expressions, drama, perspective, integration problems (looks very cut and paste).

but theres also a lot of cool stuff going on as well that shows potential.color, texture, capabilities to draw over the models.
I think MArc is gonna show us some real cool stuff in the near future but right now theres a little tail wagging the dog going on.

I personally think everything is fair in love and art.

especially in commercial art. the person who wins gets paid.

Use Poser all you want, but I say when the final image is done it shouldn't look like you used Poser. Even if you had just posted the finished image, I still would have known exactly how this piece was done. Still, there is some pretty good technique here -- keep working at it!

Yeah. Art. What he said.

Anyway, IMO, the yellows/golds in the piece look desaturated to the point where they appear brown. Just my .02.
