Sadly this isn't uncommon, there are other fairly well known small publishers (maybe one that has a Z somewhere in it's name) that also have stiffed a lot of artists.

Why not?
You think just ignoring it is better?

Like Rob said there are plenty of others out there doing the same.
What kind of industry is this if everybody knows about it but no one cares?

I mean Marvel says go work for other small publishers first otherwhise we wont hire you.

Who are you supposed to work for if almost no one actually pays you?

I got the impression he was talking about someone's address. Going up to someone and bitching at them isn't the answer. Trashing their house, burning their car, whatever he had in mind, I don't know.

If nobody works for them, they can't make any books. If nobody buys their books... Well, that doesn't seem to have made any difference so far.

Alrightythen.

Still, pitching a fuss would be as effective at getting rid of them as it's been at getting rid of Liefeld. More controversy means more attention, more sales, more money.

Problem is whenever someone does call him out he professes that he is innocent, the current economic climate blah blah. Sure he has paid some people something. I got paid for the covers I coloured but then what about the 5 books I have coloured... I aint seen nothing and keep gettting promised that the "upcoming" graphic novels will make some money. It's really frustrating and unfair but then what can you do... its the risk you have to take when going into "backend deals" I suppose.

I worked on a couple of issues for them some years ago, never saw a dime, but man, it helped me to show my work in the industry and since then I have alot of work thanks to that, and I did get my complimentary copies.

But still it pisses me off they scam all of their artists.

They even tell lies regarding Ray Harryhausen: http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/20 ... part-ways/ ... stupid. I bet when William Shatner is reading this Darren Davis will decide not to renew the contract :P

Hope they paid him. Is he a sweet old man.

In the beginning Bluewater never claimed, at least to me, they would pay. Now if they claimed in the past few months they would pay artists and didn't, yes, I can understand that artists should be upset by that. But when I lettered for them, they never claimed they would pay me. They were upfront about it, and that they didn't have the money. Now they probably do, because of William Shatner and other celebs who signed a deal with them. But that's where artists should always have a contract to confirm if it's backend pay or per page. ;)

Also, some studios (no names) claimed they weren't paid by Bluewater, I also know one of these studios never paid somebody else for a separate job, not connected to Bluewater at all, just FYI.

I usually don't comment here much, but here it goes...

From what I've seen, it's pretty common to be owed money to in this industry, not only from small publishers, but from artists we work for. I guess it comes with the job. And usually complaining publicly doens't do much to it.

I am owed money now from colorists I worked for, some for almost a year, and they just can't seem to find the resources to pay for the flats I did for books that have already been published.

Well, I guess I ended up complaining :?
