Today's workout was...

Postby John Rauch » Thu Jul 08, 2010 12:24 pm

I thought maybe this would help with accountability. Every day you work out, get on here and say what you did.

I'm strapped for time today and Thursday is normally cardio with the med. ball and kettle bell for me, but I'm thinking about a quick 20-30 minutes of yoga instead.

Today was cardio day for me too. 25 minutes on the elliptical, using the interval program. I overdid it -- I was pushing to do 30 minutes, but my lungs are still not 100%, and I really should have stopped at 20 minutes.

Next time I do cardio, I'll stick with the recumbent bike, which isn't much of a workout, but it's easier on my lungs.

Today's workout was a write-off. I *killed* my shoulders yesterday doing way more weight than I usually do (and kettle bell work, which i cant normally do due to my regular gym not having them) When I tried to do dumbbell bench press today it was like someone had jammed screwdrivers into my shoulders - so I had to drop the weights and just stick with 30 min on the elliptical machine.

I was going to do more cardio, but I did my first 10k run of the season yesterday so I thought I should take it easy.

Hopefully tomorrow I can work out ok. My shoulders are still on fire. Might just do legs instead and skip chest/back for a few days.

Good plan Dave. No sense working muscles that are still recovering.

Another substitute day for me. I've been up all night and not sure if I'll get any sleep or not. If not, I'm taking a rest day. If so, I'll do some light cardio. Next week will be a recovery week for me and I'll be doing yoga, cardio and core stuff. I did have a brilliant idea for a new routine after that though. I'll see if it still sounds brilliant after some sleep though.

Still suffering from yesterday's lung overload. If I'm lucky, I'll play some Wii or do some really low impact stuff. You know I'd rather be on the elliptical, but I just can't. I reserve the right to be a wuss.

However, today is also legs day. I'll stick to easy stuff: floor leg exercises (lifts, abductors, adductors, etc) and some squats. If I feel up to it, some lunges.

What are your lung issues you're having Laura? Is it just a matter of getting winded or is there something physically wrong?

I had pneumonia at the end of June. Lung capacity is still not 100%, and I'm still coughing and still on antibiotics.

Leg day today:

Squat rack
Leg extensions
Hamstring curls
Adductors
Abductors
Whatever you call that butt machine where you thrust one leg back against a plate
Donkey calf raises

plus 1/2 hr of elliptical machine.

Only have one day left on my two week pass at the gym in the building here in NY, then I'll have to stick with jogging and stuff I can do in the apartment for the rest of next week until I head home.

I did a run on the treadmill.
3.92 miles in 50 minutes, including the 5 minute walking warm up, and 10 minute walking cool down.
Heart rate info, average 149 bpm, max 182 bpm. As a contrast, this morning when I took my blood pressure I had a pulse of 44.
Oh, goodness. Look at my wrist. I gotta go.

I was about to ask that myself. I've only seen donkey calf raises in a magazine with some dude sitting on Arnold's back.

My workout today involved sitting in the hot tub for nearly an hour. That's it. I only slept a couple hours last night, my shoulder blades are killing me and I just wanted to rest up. Next week is going to be recover for me as well after several months of lifting without more than a day or two off at a time, so I'll be doing lots of yoga, cardio, and core stuff. After that, I'm coming up with a CrossFit/Circuit Training routine I'm anxious to try. I managed to put on about 15 lbs over the last two months and I'm definitely stronger and a little bigger. I'm anxious to see how I'll look once I skim the extra fat back off.

Heh, nice Sixter. Yeah the traditional donkey calf raises were damn gay looking (not that there's anything wrong with that)

Let's see, rode my bicycle 4.5 miles, taught a 1 hour cardio/resistance class in which I sweated like a pig, then taught a half hour stretch/min yoga class, then taught a 45 minute older adult balance overall fitness class, then worked out with arms and shoulders starting with 4 sets of hang cleans working up to 160lbs, 4 sets of upright rows up to 140lbs, 4 sets of dumbbell bicep curls up to 45lbs each arm, 4 sets of dumbbell skullcrushers up to 55lbs each arm, 2 sets of front/side lateral raises with 30lbs, 2 sets of pulley curls with 130lbs on the stack, 2 sets of pulley pushdowns with 170lbs on the stack, then called it quits. Did walk to the store a mile and a half later that day though.
