thanks Dave! My son likes it, so I think I'm on to something. Now, if only he was an editor, instead of just an art director.

That Greedo is spectacular. The Spidey is rad, too. I love that style. Maybe I am just sheltered and undereducated, but I've never seen a take like those on such recognizable characters. They're totally great. I'm running out of synonyms. Synniomnims. Sinomnymms. something like that.

thanks! I love doing that style. It's kinda irreverent, and lotsa fun.

Gotta take a break from this one, for now. I should give him some modesty by putting pants on him, at some point--although I was tempted to let him go au natural like Corben's Den.

Not sure which version I will continue with. Right now I'm leaning toward the one on the right.

I like the Hulk on the right. The big shadow shape under his ribcage feels good to me.

Wolverine is hilarious!

So, I thought I would do a Conan portrait. After my sketch though, I realized that I needed some reference.

Google found me a nice Brom painting. I'm guessing Brom was grooving to Frazetta when he did his. I'm thinking this qualifies as sort of, almost a "master copy." It took about 90 min. to do the greyscale, and 20 min. to color it.

I like how it looks like you ran a "make this suddenly rock" filter over the initial sketch.

thanks guys! I hope I recorded "make this suddenly rock" as an action, because that sketch looks pathetic. :?

when I was painting it, my son says, "that looks like a mad lady." Maybe the hoop earrings are a little too feminine?

I’d have preferred to see the initial sketch painted. I like it better than the Brom/Frazetta influenced one because it's more you, less Brom/Frazetta.
