Chuckry's sketches & WIP's

Forum for sketches, etc. Assume nudity will pop up in the sketch forum without needing an NSFW tag, but porn=boot.

This is a WIP for a piece that I'll probably use as my submission to this year's edition of "A Paw in My Face." It's a local zine that I did the "Pear Lover" illustration for, last summer. The theme of this issue is 'hate.' I figure this illo can portray self-hate at it's extreme, or perhaps the result of a murder predicated on hate.

It's not my first choice for a submission on this theme, but it may be the one I finish on time. It will be printed in black & white, but I will finish it in color.

The body is an unused image from a mystery novel cover I did last year. The client felt it was too much for their cover, but I kept it for recycling, since I quite liked the way it came together for such a quick sketch. The roughed in blobs will be lilly pads, and I will add flowers too.

thanks! I can't wait either, but I'll have to, since these comics won't color themselves. :(

Playing around with some default Photoshop brushes at low opacity, alternating between black and white ink. I wasn't sure if this portrait was going to be anyone at all. As I went on though, I decided to make him into Reed Richards, "Mr. Fantastic," from the Fantastic Four (© Marvel Comics). I'm getting the urge to paint, but this is all I have time to do now. Too many comic pages to color.

I guess that this was about an hour's worth of distracting fun.

a little update. About an extra 45 minutes of work on this one, from the previous version above.

Nice textures on Mr. Fantastic, although I think he's got The Thing's mouth. :)

I like the idea of the lilly-pad pool image too. Consider darkening and/or pushing the contrast of the water to draw the reader's eye to the body more, and to 'hide' the floating face more in the mid-toned lilly-pads.

thanks Nick! Mr. Fantastic is definitely losing some of his tightness around the mouth. :)

the drowned piece still needs some work--including pushing the contrast up, and addind some other details, such as waterlilies.

end of the day Human Torch. Painted in greyscale first with some fun default Photoshop brushes, then some quick color. Not too much fooling around with it cause I'm kinda tired.

I might submit this one as well, for the local zine. Once again it's on the theme of "Hate." It's a play on the thin line between love & hate.

Here's some pro bono work for the local Comic Con. Illustration by me, and--although I'm no designer--design/layout by moi also. It's going to be in Star Wars Insider, I believe.

One more before I turn off the lights. My latest entry for the Illustration Friday challenge. This one is on the topic of 'worry.'

It's funny because it's true. I really like the idea of the question bolts. Neat concept, and well executed. :ice:
