My sketchbook scans (some NSFW)

Forum for sketches, etc. Assume nudity will pop up in the sketch forum without needing an NSFW tag, but porn=boot.

Nice update! I like the male figure studies, especially the big one. The color figures on the cards seem a little awkwardly cropped in comparison to the ink wash cards. I'd like to see you handle the musculature in a more painterly fashion, and leave out the blackline.

Also liking the cartoon, and the cover re-creation--I love those old monster/horror/EC covers. The playmate is nice too, however, that blackline down her abdomen should have been rendered in a softer color, or handled tonally.

Looking good. I like to see a range of work like this.

Thanks, Nick and Chris, as always.

Chris, it's funny you mention painterly. I've been doing a series of the cards using warm grey Prismacolors to emulate a nice watercolor effect. There are some I actually like (I hate most of the stuff I do almost immediately), and I'll post some of the results as soon as I have a few minutes to scan. Also, I agree on the playmate 1000%. I was tempted to photoshop the line, but I figured I would stay true to showing only what is really there, and if I manipulate a file, it will be to do a completed piece.

I like that hand in the corner of your Joe Kubert cover copy, it very gestural.

Thanks, man! I found another cool Kubert cover over the weekend I wanna play with at some point.

But over the week, I have been doing up some artist sketchcards I mentioned before. The scans don't do the cards justice though. Some are just ok, but some I really like. Few more at my blog.

Nice! I think the way you're handling the musculature in these is more successful than previously.

I've not completely fallen off the sketch-a-day bandwagon of my New Year's resolution, but I haven't been 100% successful either. Lately, with a lot of things happening all at once, I haven't been able to find the time to break out the scanner and get new pieces transferred digitally, but I did create these recently based on a yen to caricature someone. And since they were done digitally, hey, no extra step; so, I thought I'd share. I put real life pictures next to each because these aren't celebrities (except to me, haha). The first is my brother and the second is a really good friend.

I'm not sure either are strong enough to go into my portfolio, but I plan on doing more in a similar vein soon and hopefully one of those will make the cut.

The second one seems more successful because it's more distorted. Don't be afraid to go overboard when doing caricatures.

Been playing around with Copics to hopefully get better and maybe set up at a con. I did two for Laura that are better than these but didn't scan them before giving them to her at Baltimore. haha. I'm a doof.
Anyways, the first is just some demon thing because I wanted to try different reds. The second is a gag strip for Emily Warren and Christina Strain's Teahouse comic. And the third is a pin-up girl with some digital touch-up (basically some smudging to get rid of the noise of the scan).

Edit: Oops, forgot my favorite one! 80's Wolverine FTW!
