Adventures with tattoo sketches(update 04/05/09)

Postby SNAKEBITE » Thu Mar 19, 2009 12:14 am

So instead of making a bunch of threads I'll just use this one to share my sketch journey

A good friend of mine told me he wanted a tattoo on his back in old english style type that said "change"...I could relate so I did a design...need portfolio pieces too and I;m better at doing assignments than doing one on my own. I'm not very good at lettering. one of my weaknesses.
I used a existing font as reference but took liberties and added a bit of Mr Bite-ness.lol

While making a tattoo portfolio I realize how much I need to draw more. I've been using the computer too much these days,
and to keep me humble I've decided to post as much as possible. My goal is one tattoo design
a day or two days. even if its small.
(hahahahaha, I just noticed my typo, NO DESIGNED FOR YOU!!!! like the friggen soup nazi..kinda sounds like how I talk though, which makes it cool  )

I really like the loose hand-drawn feel of this. i do think the G reads too much like a C though. Is it too late to work a bit of a descender in?

not too late for anything. I did it mostly for practice. I got to do this a thousand more times anyways. my journey has just begun.

like I said, lettering is something I consider a weakness , so if anyone wants to do a paintover, feel free.

here's a work in progress. I have about 4 of these unfinished concepts. but I'm learning a lot at my shop, Body Electric. I
love these dudes. they are really cool and helpful.

I'm not doing as much drawing as I need to. I have to build a full portfolio. fuck. not enough hours in the day.

I designed this back piece for my good friend JD a few years back. I sketched a concept for the lower part. Pacific Islander leaf design. I like the look of it. simple and dynamic.

Very bold. I dig it. Some of my favorite tattoos have thick black bold lines. Something about them are more distinct and memorable. Good Job. The wing shapes over the shoulder blades are my favorite part.
