Huzzah!

My Emmy certificate finally showed up after a year!! I'm pretty stoked that it came, as I'd long given up on it. Everyone on the crew got one, which I thought was pretty good of the WB!
Also: a Special shout-out to my pal Thomas Perkins, who won an outstanding individual achievement in animation award (character design) for his work on Ben 10 at this year's ceremony!

Martin Strel is my hero

Martin Strel has just completed a 3,272 mile swim down the amazon, at an average of 50 miles per day!! 65 straight days of swimming in dangerous waters. Unbelievable.
Having previously done long distance marathon sports (I cycled from the mountains of Kelowna, BC to the prairies of Winnipeg, MB in 1997) I have enough understanding of what he went through to know there's no freaking way I could have done something that insane. my hat's off to you Martin Strel!

From the Vaults 1: Batman Vs. Dracula
I don't post enough art on this blog, so as I'm going through my stash of pix for the gallery section that I'm slowly building, I'll post stuff in here as I go.
Some of it's pretty old, but whateva! Something is better than nothing!
Below is the original art that the WB home video division created for the Batman vs. Dracula DTV. Jeff Matsuda and I were not totally happy with the art, so Jeff redrew it and I painted all the foreground elements.
Just to be clear: Jeff and I did not do this first image. I'm not sure who did.

Here's the first pass at the cover Jeff and I did.

But the WB found the pose for Dracula too threatening, so we candied up his hands and closed his mouth. Ah well.

Anyway, at the end it was a bit of a coup. Normally the art dept. on a show has nothing to do with the box art. We were pretty happy to get involved.
Also: It's hard to make out in the printed version, but I worked Jeff's and my name into two of the tombstones.

TMNT= Good!

Went down to LA this weekend for some meetings and to see friends, and got to catch the cast and crew screening of the TMNT movie I worked on to boot. (Color design)
Movie's great. Go see it! Thomas Perkins' monsters and Jose Lopez' bad guy design work both tear up the screen.
Also found out that The Batman's up for another Emmy. Not sure if it's for season 3 or 4. I selfishly hope it's 3, as I left before the start of 4, but either way: go Team Batman!

Greater Vancouver zoo not so great.

I am not a big zoo fan in general, but the GVZ seems full of extra sad animals. :(
This cow is from India, which I failed to recognize due to the fact that it looked well fed and sad, unlike the cows that I saw during my trip through India which were starving and seemed very content to just lie about in the road in the middle of traffic. Maybe the zoo needs to put a little section of road thru his pen, and he'd be happy.
